A Life of Her Own

.
The photographs in this series address memory, loss, and narrative. The series includes portraits of dolls: old friends found dusty and neglected, friends who once shared so many experiences with us. Through these photographs, I aim to create a space for imagining the dolls’ own stories. I invite the viewer to imagine the emotional and experiential narratives that precede and undergird the captured moment, to play dolls once again, and to consider the stories of those we leave behind as our lives move in directions that do not include them.

Spirit of a School

.
This series serves as a visual memoir of the life of a school, but also a closure for one early 20th Century school that will soon be demolished. Shot at sunset, the images use light and shadow, to create contrast and so to suggest an ending. The images memorialize the school itself in these portraits of its features.

Mementos

For this series, titled “Mementos,” I photograph objects in found contexts restructured through the lens but always captured as is. Nonetheless, in my photographs I also aim to construct a dissonance between structure and theme. This creates ambiguity—not by manipulating the physical world but by manipulating the point of view. This, in turn, is meant to dialogue with—and to disturb—the expectations of the viewer.
